I wrote If These Are Men Then Count Me Out when I was going out with my first girlfriend Vicky. We had some sort of teenage argument and my buddies from Euclid were like tell her off, etc Your the Man\. The way they talked seemed kind of phony to me and also I thought I did a few things wrong in the relationship also. So I wrote the song and the Lost Souls performed it with saxophone sort of a Spencer Davis RB thing and that was that. Its on Lion Hearts Records Cd of the the Lost Souls Music. It comes with a 32 page booklet.About a year and a half later I was in the Choir a regrouping of there band of It's Cold Outside Fame although totally different. The arrangement off the song is totally different. On the Lost Souls I sang lead in the Key Of C the Choir Kenny sang lead in the key of A.The Lost Souls had a sax two guitars, one of the guitars with fuzz tone, bass and drums, while the Choir had A lIve real Hammond organ with two Leslie speakers, a real piano bass a guitar and drums. The words are different also. For anyone who thinks my lyrics are smooth take a look at these to see how I started. Kenny Margolis paraphrased my lyrics for the Choir Version. I guess it shows in some relationships , just as in music, there are two versions of the same story
My original words were. LOST SOUL LYRICS
My friends say shy away from her as much as you can .Don't Show Your You're feelings or hurt, You must be a man
(CHORUS) If these are men then count me out leave me standing in my doubt cause Ive been staying away from you
After an off color joke they say don't give in just make her squirm and crawl You've got to show her her sins. (CHORUS)
Saliva tools down their cheeks as they speak to me don't show you're feelings or hurt You must be a man CHORUS
