Whiskey Island
The story I tell, a hidden mystery of people rocks and sand,
Steel and salt, nature flowing free hear the tale of Whiskey Island
Lorenzo Carter, was the first to settle there, then came Dave and Gilman Bryant
Distilled whiskey fought mosquitoes and snakes, thus came Whiskey Island
Then came the Irish, who lived and lie there, they struggled to make a dollar
They worked real hard, Sunday went to church, hooray for Whiskey Island
Railyards, factories, steam driven ships, changing the Island forever
Shanties of tar and tin in the great depression Hoovervile on Whiskey Island
Queen Ann's Lace, willows to the north, cottonwood, doves and swan
Sunfish pond, Monarch Butterfly, exist on Whiskey Island
Woods and weeds, dogs and deer seagulls circle the station
The Coast Guard's pride, broken men have called home, here on Whiskey Island
Moonscape of sand dunes, rock piles to the south ,600 miles of salt mines
Dinosaur Hullets, add to the ambience, pyramids on Whiskey Island
Where are we going?
Talk about misdirection I see it all around me,people are rushing to and fro
Give me the time, give me the season , when people had a reason to know what they know
Where are we going? Where are we going? Where are we going? I’d like to know
60's was one thing 70's was another, all through the ages it's been love your brother
We run away form love , we run away from the reign ,it’s always a battle between Able and Cain
Where are we going? Where are we going? Where are we going? I’d like to know.
50's was one thing 60's was another, all through the ages it's been love your brother
We run away form love , we run away from the reign ,somehow science doesn't help me stay sane
Where are we going? Where are we going? Where are we going? I’d like to know
Apes they are talking, computers play chess,The book of Revelations is anyone’s guess
Women are working, and man is at rest and when they're going to clone, they're going to use the best
Where are we going? Where are we going? Where are we going? I’d like to know
Coney Island Blues
The tattooed man and the bearded lady lost their jobs today , they're building a fast food restaurant at Coney Island , the lease is up today/ and who'll ever remember the wild man from Borneo or the Midget who stood so tall / all they'll know is their Disneyland / canned music and shopping malls
And what'll ever happen to the two-headed man or his ape-like son / the laughing lady ain't laughing No more and the three-legged dog he'd better run / cause the bulldozer's gonna crush your house / You'd better pick-up your last pay / they're building a fast food restaurant on Coney Island, the lease is up today
In The Middle of An Island - 1969
In the middle of an island in the center of a lake is where I want to go. I want to fix the bridge that Holds me back so I can go and go. I want to be there right now. I need to be there today. But when I Get there I'll never know I know I'm not there today as I cross the bridge I look into the lake and There's someone doing the same. I see small trees swaying to and fro, just waiting to shade me
I want to be there right now, I need to be there today, when I get there I'll live slow I know I'm not There today Repeat first verse
Breathtaking - 1988
You can filter the air, but you can't hide from the guck all around you when you walk outside. The Orange-red glow in the sky is breathtaking. Don't notice a difference 'till you get out of town - pretty Soon it'll be the same all around. Mother nature's wearing a brown-gray crown - it's breathtaking. People want to plant some trees, but they're losing the battle when they're losing their leaves. Gone by Early August, such a sight to see - it's breathtaking.
Dover Fair
It wasn't The Paris Moon.where we spent our honeymoon,
It was that night in June at the Dover Fair
We thought we had it made, bought you a lemonade
Played games at the old arcade,we didn't have a care
But now we've got credit cards, visa and master charge
How did it get so hard from here to there
If I had a time machine, you'd see just what I mean
Back in those fields of green at the Dover Fair.
Hot July in a swimming pool, never thought of summer school
Man it was cool, with magic in the air.
Birds whistled a special song, telling us that we belonged
And the farther I went along,I wanted my share
Of the valleys and the mountainsides where we went for a ride
I loved it, I cannot lie, I wish I was there
Gazing at the peaceful scene,Oh the creek was so serene
Like some kind of gentle dream in my mind somewhere
But now we've got credit cards, visa and master charge
How did it get so hard from here to there
If I had a time machine, you'd see just what I mean
Back in those fields of green at the Dover Fair
Peter On The Water
I sailed my ship on rough waters ,waives came up nearly drowned
Listen now ye son's and daughters' here my story, gather round
Like Peter on the water,I gave into my fears but in the fog and darkness, the lighthouse was there
But then the Red Sea parted,I crossed on dry land, but all along the way I felt Jesus’ hand.(chorus)
As the floods of life descended, I felt like Noah and the Ark,
Grace and faith abounded, but still I missed the mark
Like Jonah and the Whale,I'm sure you heard the story,
But if it wasn't for that second chance there would be no rainbow glory(chorus)
When I reached the dry valley, springs started flowing
Cause even in the desert, faith has a way of showin
You can come to the water, when your dying of thirst
And I can't remember if I was last or I'm first (chorus)
It started with the water, when I was baptized
But most the time,I've spent swimming against the tide
Now you've heard my tale ,all ye sons and daughters
Come drink freely of the Life giving water.(chorus)
Shades Of Gray
Don't look at me that way, what could you have to say
On this autumn day with your shades of gray (chorus)
I could go to Nottingham, where the sparrow flies by the Wily dam
All around are space and trees and the air feels like(violet)(violent)memories(chorus)
Southern belles are calling me with there civil was symphonies
Muskets in my soul cry out, what's a civil war all about (chorus)
By the Hudson River by the adrain sea
I see a vague reflection of a poet by a tree
The seeds that have been planted are my destiny
A rainbow colored mirror broken inside of me (chorus)
Feuger Shakespeare Or Mitchell
Who encourages your problems, who exaggerates your fears
Who is causing all your troubles Who is causing all your tears
It's either Feuger Shakespeare or Mitchell it’s not my fault my friends perversions
It's either Feuger Shakespeare or Mitchell, no blame on me it's one of those three
I'm not preaching I'm sure you know You can take it fast or you can make it slow.
It's up to you so the saying goes You can be in heaven or down below
A pure white stallion a 12 inch snow A misty moonlight a boat that rows
It's up to you so the saying goes You can take it fast or make it slow
Pick It Up
Went down to the Euclid creek last week to enjoy a nice spring day
But what did I see but a bunch of beer cans where the tiger ducks used to play
Pick It Up (chorus)
I'm no policeman,no nothing of ozone, but I know what I want to say
It don't make you a man to throw your beer can where the tiger lilies used to lay (chorus)
In kindergarten they tell all the kids when your done with it put it away
So throw your wrappers from your burgers and fries in the trash can not in the lake(chorus)
The earth won't speak and neither will the lake but I bet they 've got a lot to say
Cause I just heard a very strong word.wise Up before it's too late(chorus)
Linesville dam
By the Ohio border just into P.A. Saw an amazing sight the other day
Big huge fish lying on their backs they never swam
Living for the stale bread at the Lineseville dam
The fish just cram into this little tiny space, they're free to go but they won't leave
Big mouths eat stale bread and big fish just pile on
Livin for the big crumb at the Linesville Dam
I know if I could I would free them right now
And show them there’s more to life if they would only swim
But there too big to move and they've forgotten how
Livin for the big loaf at the Linesville dam
By the Ohio border just into P.A. Saw an amazing sight the other day
Big huge fish lying on their backs they never swam
Living for the stale bread at the Lineseville dam
I know if I could I would free them right now
And show them there’s more to life if they would only swim
But there too big to move and they've forgotten how
Livin for the green bread at the Linesville dam
Environmental girlfriend
We'll sit around and talk about the ozone and how the world might end
We'll separate and sort all our trash right into the recycle bin
But the way you sort through all that waste I know were more than friends
It's not the way you look, or the way you cook, it's the way you think that nature spins
It's an all natural love sent from above my environmental girlfriend
We will protect our habitat, but not because it's a trend
We'll balance our checks in the balance of life,we'll watch what we spend
We'll recycle our glass and our memories and the cycle will never end
It's not the way you look, or the way you cook, it's the way you think that nature spins
It's an all natural love sent from above my environmental girlfriend
We'll read our mail from our congressman, from the letters that we send
We'll take our stance with the plants and trees but we will never bend
We'll speak for those who cannot speak it's those we will defend
Chorus
It Only Takes A Spark
It only takes a spark to get a fire going, with a little bit of faith we can move the mountain (chorus)
Were all in this together, the earth the sky men and woman
For the sake of our children for the sake of our selves were gonna win this fight
Were on this planet together somehow were connected
If we treat others like they'd like to be treated were off to a good start (chorus)
It only takes a minute to think of what your doing
For the sake of our children for the sake of ourselves were gonna win this fight (chorus)
I Could Never Dance
It started back in high school I went to my class prom
All the guys were staring at me trying to edge me on
They said this is once in a lifetime this may be your last chance
So take that girl out on the floor and learn to dance
We were at an amusement park,we were on a date and some joker who was supposed to be a friend of mine took her on every ride and I think she enjoyed it too but I made up with her and took her to the dance the next week
I crossed my legs I ran around and said this is my last chance but I could never dance
So just recently I went to Prastava and tried to dance
The people were holding hands and spinning around so fast they almost melted
I almost broke my arms it was my last chance but I could never dance
Further Down The Line
It’s a mean and dreadful sorrow, when she’s never coming back
No money left to borrow no train left on the track
But if it never runs again it would be to soon
And I will take my pen and I will howl at the moon
And if I never write a song I know that I have tried
I have tried my best to belong I’ll know I have not lied
I’ll try to reach the bleachers you can check my next at bat
I won’t contradict the preacher I will check my coat and hat
And if I go to Memphis I will go to Tennessee I will be a success I will try to be free
But if you try to wound me I will take it on my skin
I will turn around and I will pray just like my evil twin
If you try to analyze you are wasting all your time Cause it’s O.K. from where I sit I’m further down the line
Sank A Palace
Sank a palace by the sea when my ship went down
friends whose hearts were gold to me gifts that ner again can be neath the water brown.
Oh there you lie old ship today neath the sand bars stiff and gray
you who proudly sailed away to another town
Now the oceans bitter cup leaves behind your trembling lips
Now on deathly woes you look up and your humbled pride from disasters grips
Ruined nets around you weave but I have no time to grieve
I will promptly I believe build another ship
